Concert 3 - Nordic Contrasts

  • St Mary's Anglican Church 455 Main Street, Kangaroo Point Brisbane, QLD Australia (map)

The third concert in their 2016 Concert Series sees the Taimana Ensemble present a concert of Nordic and Nordic-inspired music. The programme exposes the contrasts of music from this region, from the innocent beauty of Nielsen's The Fog is Lifting to the deep disturbance of Sibelius' Malinconia. Trios by Icelandic composer Leifur Thorarinsson and German-Danish composer Friedrich Kuhlau emphasise the contrast between the angular and textural nature of contemporary music and the refined aesthetics from the late classical period. Music from the Scandinavian countries comes together in a suite by Percy Grainger.

Programme:

Flute Mystery, Flint Juventino BEPPE

The Fog is Lifting, Carl NIELSEN

La Scandinavie, Percy GRAINGER

Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano, Leifur THORARINSSON

Malinconia, Jean SIBELIUS

Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano, Friedrich KUHLAU
